Why independent techs list on FindMNM
Find My Neighborhood Mechanic (FindMNM) is built for independent and home mechanics: find local customers, keep a simple book of jobs, and invoice without paying shop overhead.
Listings are open now. Coverage is still thin, so a shop that signs up today is often the first one customers see in that zip. There is no monthly fee.
Take cards from the customer’s phone
Finish the job, send the invoice, and they pay by card on their own phone — often about 10–15 minutes to set up with Stripe. No reader, no extra equipment. You can invoice and take cash immediately; zip search lists you after card payouts are on. FindMNM never sees or stores your bank routing or account numbers — you enter those only on Stripe.
Accounting and invoicing stay free
You get the full shop tools — customers, invoices, history, and cash jobs — at no charge. You never pay FindMNM a subscription or a cut of cash.
FindMNM only collects a commission when the customer pays by card (a 3% convenience fee added for them). Stripe’s card processing fee (2.9% + $0.30) comes out of that card payout to you. Cash jobs stay $0 to us.
Your address stays private until you say so
At sign up you choose whether your working street address appears on the public map. If you leave it off, customers only see your city/area and an orange approximate pin (not your house or shop door). The exact address is not public. After you accept a customer, use Share address on your customer list. That gives them a private link to the work location so people cannot just show up.
Tools you actually use on the job
- Customer records with phone and email, so you are not retyping the same person.
- Customers can send their info from search before they arrive, and you can look them up by phone.
- Invoices and job history in one place, tied to your shop.
- A public listing by zip code. You choose home garage, mobile, or small independent shop so customers know what you are. Street address is optional and under your control.
Be first in a zip — customers are already waiting
If someone searches and finds no technician, they can ask for one text when a shop lists inside a range they pick (from 1 to 100 miles).
When you go live on the map in that area, we ping those waiting numbers and send them back to zip search.
The first listing in a quiet zip is the one those customers hear about. Independent techs anywhere can sign up; there is no territory fee.
How to get started
Create a tech account and add your shop name and location. You can invoice and take cash right away. Card payouts usually take about 10–15 minutes on Stripe (driver’s license, Social Security number, and your bank routing and account numbers). FindMNM does not receive those bank numbers. Zip search lists shops that have finished that Stripe setup so customers can pay from the completion text. Cash jobs never get a card fee. Set your tax rate on the Mechanic Data page.
